Nothing is so easy as to deceive one’s self since what we wish is always easy to believe. No one in my life has deceived me as much as I have. Why do I always try to cover my small accomplishments under blankets of words that make light of my work or excuses for my lack of ability? Worst of all, I have come to believe my excuses so that I willingly sell my days for pennies, while consoling myself with thoughts that things could always be worse. No more!

Og Mandino. The Greatest Salesman in the World II

I spent so many years convincing myself that my excuses for not being successful were true. I finally woke up one day and realized the truth. The only thing keeping me from success is me. I am the one that is not doing the things that successful people do. I was the one who wasn’t doing the required work and then complaining that nothing was happening. I was the one being selfish and then blaming others for my lack of results.

It was only when I came to that place of surrender, where I gave up my right to make excuses and took full responsibility for my business, that things started to happen. It has been a journey of over 20 years, but it has been worth it. All along the way, I was being taught lessons to prepare me for the success I have now. They were like seeds that are now reaping a harvest.

Isn’t It Your Turn?

Are you ready to let go of the excuses that have been holding you back? Are you tired of saying, “I don’t have the money”, “I don’t have the time”, “I can’t this” and “I can’t that.” Anytime you speak in the negative about your business, it is an excuse. I know, I have used them all and they kept me broke and defeated.

“But you don’t understand. I don’t have any customers/clients, nobody wants to work with me. I am great at what I do, but nobody sees me. I guess I am not meant to be successful.”

That is a pile of rubbish and I used to say the same things. I realized, about ten years ago, the reason I was always failing at being a solopreneur was that I lacked the most vital skill of all; the ability to generate and close leads.

If you are solopreneur/entrepreneur and you don’t know how to prospect and position yourself as the go-to expert in your niche, you do not have a business, you have a hobby. Sorry to be so blunt, but it is the truth.

The other out I gave myself was that you had to have natural sales abilities to be able to create clients. That wasn’t true either. It was just a skill that I needed to learn and perfect through practice. People are amazed when they watch me talk to potential clients, how easily I can do it and convert them. They think that I must be a natural at it, but I am not. In fact, it took me the first 12 years in Network Marketing to figure out how to recruit someone into a simple home-based business. If I had to recruit someone or die, I would have been dead! I am not a superstar. I did everything the hard way!

But then, I learned some simple verbal positioning skills combined with relaxed body language. I started practicing it over and over. Guess what? I started to get some results and over the next ten years, I practiced thousands of times.

When I first started my ghostwriting business, those skills helped me get clients and grow my business. There were a lot of other things I had to learn, but at least I had some money coming in the door so I could afford to learn them.

If you struggle to generate clients and customers for your business, then send me a message and let’s talk. I do private and group coaching to teach you how to generate leads for your business and then convert them. Don’t miss out on your opportunity for success because you lack a simple skill. Learn and grow. You will be so happy that you did!
