When you become an entrepreneur/solopreneur, you have this massive dream in your heart about how successful you are going to become, and it burns so brightly, until you start your business. It is not long before the reality of how little you know smacks you in the face and you feel like giving up.


So, you dig in and you listen to the gurus and you get training, accept for the one that you really need. You think that you are moving forward but the truth is, it only appears that way and eventually you quit because you don’t have the one thing that is essential for a business:


Customers and Clients.


The one skill you must have to be successful as a solopreneur, entrepreneur, life or business coach is the ability to prospect clients and then turn them into paying customers.


That is where you get stuck. You put all the other pieces in place (and usually spend either a lot of money or time to do it), and then nothing, because you can’t generate customers.


As a solopreneur, you quit before you even start because you have no money coming in. You end up settling for a J.O.B. (Just Over Broke) and you tell yourself the excuse that you were just not meant to be an entrepreneur.


Yes, you were!!! You are one skill away from success and it is not as hard as you think.


“But I am not a salesman, how can I sell?” Good, you are not supposed to be a salesman, so get that out of your mindset. That is not who you are.


“Then how am I supposed to get clients?” Great question. By learning to share who you are and what you do in an authentic way that attracts the right customer to you.


You don’t need a fancy website or massive social media following to generate business, all you need to start is the ability to open your mouth and say the right words. There are potential customers everywhere you go, (yes, sometimes even Timmie’s.) When you combine that with strategic networking, you will create customers for your business. You will have money coming in and you will grow.


How Does It Work?

It is a combination of three things:

  1. Your mindset. You must believe that you can do this;
  2. A powerful, strong introduction where people won’t forget you; and
  3. The ability to ask the correct questions and provide enough value that people want to work with you.

In my next blog post we will look at each one. Over the last 10 years I have generated thousands of leads for the different businesses that I have been in and converted many of them into paying customers. “No” has become one of my best friends and through her I have become friends with her sister “Yes”, as well.


I know what it is like to fail at business. For my first 12 years, I couldn’t convert a lead if my life depended upon it. I ended up starting and quitting quite a few businesses because I couldn’t get customers. I know how frustrating it can be.


But once I learned how to talk to people it all changed, and I changed. Now, not only can I generate my own leads, but I can convert them into repeat customers, who in turn refer me to others.


It is possible and I am living proof of that.
